Assistant Instructor
The Assistant Instructor rating is the next step after becoming a Divemaster along the scuba instructor pathway. It allows you to collect valuable teaching experience, practice briefings, teach academics, and conduct in-water training.
The SSI Assistant Instructor program provides candidates with the knowledge and tranining to perform the duties of an Asssistant Instructor.
If you want to further your career as a dive professional, you can finish the Instructor Training Course, pass the Instructor Evaluation, and become an Open Water Diving Instructor.

Pre-requisite: SSI Account & SSI Divemaster or equivalent from a recognized training agency

- Have logged at least 60 open water dives totaling 40 hours or more to start the program.
- Have logged at least 75 open water dives totaling 50 hours or more to complete the program.
Time: 35 - 42 Hours
Minimum Age: 18
Academic Sessions: Online Program & 16 - 24 hours classroom
Pool/Confined Water Sessions: 2 days
Open Water Sessions: 0 days
Required gear for the course:
A complete Total Diving System: Personal gear - mask, fins, and snorkel. Diving System - BCD, Regulators, depth gauge or computer, weights, tanks, and wetsuit if needed. Diving System can be rented from Sport Divers. Personal gear can be purchased at Sport Divers if needed.
Special Equipment for the course:
Dive light, compass, and delayed surface marker buoy.

We understand that “life” can happen at the drop of a hat, but if you need to reschedule a class, there will be a re-scheduling fee based on the course, training requirements, any pool fees, and instructor availability.
